Esperance close in on Nigeria’s Isaac Success after FIFA Club World Cup exit

By Dayo Awoniyi

Esperance Sportive de Tunis have identified Nigerian international Isaac Success as a top transfer target as the club seeks to rebuild following a disappointing campaign at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Tunisian champions exited the tournament at the group stage after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to eventual winners Chelsea, a result that highlighted their lack of cutting edge in the final third.

In response, the club’s management has prioritized bolstering their attacking options ahead of the new season.

According to multiple reports in Tunisia, Esperance are in talks to sign Success, who is currently a free agent.

The 28-year-old forward most recently played for Al Wasl in the UAE Pro League following a brief stint in Italy with Udinese, where he terminated his contract by mutual consent in early 2024.

Success, a versatile and physically dominant striker, boasts experience across several top leagues, including La Liga, the English Premier League, and Serie A.

He began his European career with Granada CF and later joined Watford FC, where he featured in over 60 matches in England’s top flight.

Capped four times by Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Success is known for his strength, hold-up play, and ability to play across the front line. His addition would provide Esperance with much-needed firepower as they prepare for both domestic and continental competitions.

The move is seen as a critical step in Esperance’s efforts to reassert their dominance in African football after their early Club World Cup exit.
