Everton Welcomes Onyekuru Back as Striker Faces Injury Setback During Anderlecht Loan

In a disappointing turn of events, Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru has prematurely returned to Everton following a severe knee injury sustained while on loan at Anderlecht. The setback occurred during Anderlecht’s 1-0 victory over Onyekuru’s former club Eupen in a Belgian First Division A fixture, prompting immediate concerns for the player’s well-being.
Late into the match, Onyekuru was stretchered off the field, and subsequent assessments revealed the need for surgery, forcing the promising striker to face an extended period of rehabilitation. Anderlecht officially confirmed the news, stating that Onyekuru would be sidelined for several months.
Taking to social media, Onyekuru expressed gratitude for the support he received during this challenging time. In a tweet on Saturday, accompanied by a photo of himself in Everton kit at the club’s training grounds, he stated, “Back at @Everton a little earlier than expected, I am so grateful for the facilities and the medical team working hard to get me back playing ASAP! The Lord is my strength 🙏🏾.”
Onyekuru, who initially joined Everton from Eupen at the start of the season, was promptly loaned out to Anderlecht. Despite a slow start, he managed to find his form, netting nine goals in 19 league appearances and a total of 10 goals in 28 games across all competitions, primarily playing as a wide forward. Everton now faces the challenge of aiding the young striker in his recovery journey, hoping to see him back on the pitch in top form in the near future.
