FA refute FIFPRO claims, urge foreigners to join the Egyptian Premier League

FIFPRO, the global representative body for professional footballers, has advised foreign players against signing for Egyptian clubs as player moving to a club in the country had “a high chance of resulting in legal proceedings”.
Last year, Fifpro issued a similar warning advising players against signing with clubs in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Turkey because of “systematic and widespread contractual violations in those countries”.
Non-payment of salaries was a recurring problem for players in Algeria and Saudi Arabia, according to the union.
In 2013, the union made a similar warning about players signing with clubs in Greece and Turkey. But over the past decade, they have become desirable destinations for football players.
However, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) which oversees the country’s professional clubs has firmly rejected FIFPRO’s allegations.
“The EFA is extremely frustrated with the statement issued by FIFPRO, which contains several erroneous pieces of information,” EFA said in a statement late on Wednesday.
“We can confirm that even if some incidents occurred, they represent individual cases that do not apply to all Egyptian clubs.
“We have 268 foreign players in different tiers and over the past four years, we have only received two complaints regarding passport withholding. Both matters were immediately resolved after our intervention.”
