Fanendo Adi Eager for Redemption with Portland Timbers After Lengthy Injury Layoff

Portland, USA – Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi expresses his eagerness to revitalize his career with Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers after enduring a six-month absence due to a challenging hamstring injury. Adi, a stalwart forward for Portland since joining the club three and a half years ago, faced setbacks last season due to the injury, limiting his on-field contributions.

With Timbers’ season opener against Los Angeles Galaxy scheduled for March 4, Adi is committed to reclaiming his place on the pitch and surpassing his previous performances for the club. In a statement to the club’s official website, the 27-year-old striker stated, “I’m hoping to outdo whatever I’ve done for this team. I’m working so hard on my fitness, having been out for so long. Now that I have a few more things that I know how to do right, I’ll be better in the long run.”

Adi candidly shared the challenging journey of recovery, emphasizing the frustration of setbacks. “When you know you need just two weeks to come back, and then you do something very little and it reoccurs, it was quite frustrating,” he explained. Despite being a crucial goal-scorer for the team, Adi found it challenging to be sidelined. “Knowing I’m a person the team relies on to get goals, and not being there for the team, it was very frustrating.”

Maintaining a positive outlook, Adi believes that every challenge serves a purpose. “In as much as [the injury] was a bad thing, it happened for a reason,” he stated. Adi sees the injury-induced hiatus as an opportunity for self-reflection. “I’m the kind of person that thinks everything is supposed to happen, so I take what seems to be the negative and make it a positive. Probably, it was the time for me to be out and reflect on being here. Injuries happen, but mine was happening in a different way, where very minor things kept reoccurring.”
