By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Football Association (FA) Inter Area Councils Women’s Tournament gets underway as AMAC and Kwali secured wins on the opening day, Thursday, April 10, 2025.

The FCT Football Association organised the event. Its Women’s Football Committee aims to find talent. They also want to boost gender inclusion in all six Area Councils.

AMAC beat Bwari 2-0 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Practice Pitch. Kwali won 9-1 against Abaji at the Abaji Football Pitch.

Mr. Kayode Adeniyi, NTA Sports General Manager, praised the idea. He spoke after the kickoff match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

“This event gives girls a voice through sport. It’s more than just football,” the former FCT SWAN Chairman said. “It builds community and engages youth.”

He commended Pat Ajuma Ayegba’s work to develop girls’ talent. Her passion revived the FCT FA Women’s Football League. She is making a change.

“I urge the media to support this event. These girls deserve attention,” he added.

Patrick Bassey, FCT FA Board Member, lauded the play. He stressed the long-term plan.

“We saw future stars today,” Bassey said. “The FCT FA will build women’s football. We will find talents for the league and national teams.”

Pat Ajuma Ayegba, FCT FA Board member, was proud of the start.

“Today, we start to bring football to every girl,” said the former footballer. She also provided grants to the Area Councils.

“I am proud of the teams. Thanks to the FCT FA and partners for their belief. This event is the first of many for young girls to shine.”

The tournament continues with matches in all Area Councils. The top two teams will reach the semi-final. The final will crown the first champions.

Bwari hosts Gwagwalada on Saturday. Abaji plays Kwali on the same day.

Kuje welcomes Abaji on Monday, April 14. AMAC visits Gwagwalada, also on Monday.

Opening Day Results:

AMAC 2–0 Bwari (Moshood Abiola Practice Pitch)

Abaji 1–9 Kwali (Abaji Football Pitch)
