Fidelis Ilechukwu not getting carried away with Rangers thrashing of Gombe United
By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Enugu Rangers, Fidelis Ilechukwu has tasked his side to be more clinical and decisive in their subsequent games even after they thrashed Gombe United 4-1 on Saturday.
The Flying Antelopes had to come from behind before recording a convincing victory over the Desert Scorpions in the Nigeria Premier Football League encounter decided at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.
Wasiu Alalade shot the visitors to an early lead before Godwin Obaje responded with two first half goals and
Chidiebere Nwobodo and Agu put the game to rest with two more goals in the second period.
And pleased Ilechukwu refused to be carried away by the high-scoring result, emphasizing the need for more concentration and taking their early chances to avoid upset in their subsequent matches.
“I think it was a very good game if you look at the goals we scored in this match, 4-1, but, in my analysis as the technical adviser of this team, we have not come to that standard which I envisage for the team.
“I am worried about what we would do when more top sides come visiting if we could not bury the number of chances we created in this match.
“I believe my team needs a surgical operation to be at the level I want for us to achieve our set target for this season.”
Rangers are now on 25 points from 16 games, excluding a game in hand scheduled to come up in few days before rounding up the first stanza with an away duel against Akwa United.
