FIFA rankings: Super Falcons move up two spots on latest women’s rankings

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team moved two places on the latest FIFA Rankings released on Friday, June 9.

The nine-time African champions will be heading to the FIFA Women’s World Cup next month as the top-ranked team in Africa.

The West Africans climbed up from the 42nd position occupied in March to the 40th ahead of reigning champions, South Africa.

The Banyana Banyana made no movement on the ranking as it maintained its 54th spot in the world and second in Africa. Cameroon also maintained its 56th position in the world and third in Africa.

Ghana moved a spot from 59th to 58th position in the world ranking and fourth in Africa while fourth-placed Ivory Coast dropped two places in the world to 66th position.

Two-time African champions, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Tunisia, Zambia, and Algeria complete the top ten ranked women’s football team in Africa.

The four African representatives at the World Cup maintained their top ten positions in Africa with the Copper Queens as the lowest-ranked African side heading to this year’s World Cup with its 77th position.

The next ranking is expected to be released in September after the World Cup.
