FIFA U-20 World Cup: Flying Eagles arrive Santiago for final training camp

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, have landed in Santiago, Chile, for a 12-day intensive training camp ahead of the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup.

The camp is designed to put the finishing touches on their preparations before the global tournament kicks off later this month.

During their stay, the Flying Eagles will engage in two high-profile friendly matches aimed at testing the team’s readiness and tactical shape.

The first comes on Saturday, September 20, when they face tournament hosts Chile, who are drawn in Group A alongside New Zealand, Japan, and Egypt.

The second fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, against Australia, a side placed in Group D with Italy, Cuba, and Argentina.

According to Dayo Enebi Achor, the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Head of International Competitions, both fixtures will serve as crucial benchmarks for Ladan Bosso’s boys ahead of the World Cup proper.

The Flying Eagles’ camp in Santiago is expected to focus on fine-tuning tactics, enhancing team cohesion, and sharpening match fitness.

For head coach Ladan Bosso, the fixtures against Chile and Australia present the perfect opportunity to evaluate his squad’s strengths and address potential gaps before the competition begins.

The 24th edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup will run from 27 September to 19 October across cities in Chile.

Nigeria, seven-time African champions and two-time World Cup finalists, will be looking to finally clinch the elusive title and add to the nation’s rich pedigree in youth football.
