FIFA U-20 World Cup: Ladan Bosso promises more goals from Nigeria in Argentina
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-20 team, Isah Ladan Bosso has promised Nigerians more goals at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The delegation of two-time runners-up touched down in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina on Sunday for a 10-day camping programme ahead of this year’s finals of the youth competition.
A contingent of 20 players and 10 officials departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday night aboard a Turkish Airline flight and travelled through Istanbul before heading to the “land of the Pampas”.
And the tactician assures there will be no goal drought for his side ahead of its opening game against the Dominican Republic on May 21.
“Goalscoring is all about working towards it. Forget about the timing when the goals come. The most important thing. We don’t train the team to score goals because anybody can score goals,” Bosso told Brila FM.
“The strikers are there to torment opponents’ defence and unsettle them. When they unsettle them, any other person can score.
“In Egypt, out of six matches, we scored eight goals and conceded only two. From that competition, we were the second-highest goal-scoring team without fine attackers.
“Now, we have fine attackers in our team now meaning that you should expect better performance upfront than what we saw in Egypt.”
With a record of having finished with the silver medals in 1989 and 2005, and with the bronze medals in 1985, the Flying Eagles are hoping to break the duck and collect the top prize in their 13th appearance.
