FIFA U20 World Cup: Ladan Bosso reveals Nigeria’s main objective in Argentina

By Monsurah Olatunji
Head coach of the Nigeria U20 national team, Ladan Bosso has revealed his team’s mission is to reach the final of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.
The Flying Eagles will face South Korea in the quarterfinals at Santiago del Estero on Saturday after eliminating host country and most successful team in the competition’s history, Argentina 2-0 in the Round of 16.
Although, the seven-time African champions have been to the final of the competition twice but a Bosso-led team has never passed the quarterfinal phase after they were pipped by Chile a quarterfinal in Montreal at Canada 2007.
And the tactician is optimistic about breaking the jinx this time as he insisted on taking it a game at a time, stressing that the dream of achieving the feat which the country has recorded twice previously, is possible.
“We are delighted to have executed a perfect game plan against Argentina. Our strategy and tactics worked out and the boys worked very hard,” Bosso told FIFA TV.
“It is a new day, a new championship, a new city, and a new team. Nigeria has been in the final of this same competition on two previous occasions. Our objective is to at least match that feat. Once we’re in the final, anything can happen.
“Now, we have to concentrate on what to expect from the Koreans. We have been watching their games at this championship and we have a good idea of how to prepare for them.
“Again, the boys must work hard and carry out our plan on match day. We have the playing personnel to do the job and I am positive we will cross the Korean hurdle.”
On Thursday, the Koreans had edged hard-fighting Ecuador 3-2 in their Round of 16 encounter, to set up a much-anticipated last-eight tango with the two-time silver medalists this weekend.
