Following his appointment as Rivers United’s head coach, Finidi George has expressed his enthusiasm and readiness to give back to the club that played a pivotal role in his football career.
The ex-international began his football journey with Sharks FC of Port Harcourt. In 2016, Sharks FC and Dolphins FC merged to form Rivers United F.C. This new appointment marks a homecoming for George, who signed a two-year contract with the Pride of Rivers after his resignation as Super Eagles coach.
George, 53, boasts a commendable coaching record, having led Enyimba to triumph in the Nigeria Premier Football League during his debut season. However, he left the club before the end of the 2023/24 season to take on the Super Eagles assignment.
In a video posted by Trendy Faith on X, George expressed his excitement and commitment to his new role: “I am very happy to be here because I started my football career with Sharks FC. I am back as a coach now. This is an opportunity for me to give back to the club. I have taken this challenge and I am not here for fun.”
With his deep connection to the club and a proven track record, George’s return to Rivers United is seen as a significant step towards achieving success and elevating the team’s performance in the league.
