Former Flying Eagles Defender Gbenga Arokoyo Secures Three-Year Deal with Kalmar FF

Former Nigerian junior international, Gbenga Arokoyo, has inked a three-year deal with Swedish club Kalmar FF, marking his departure from Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United. The 25-year-old, who previously represented the Flying Eagles, adds depth to Kalmar FF’s roster as they continue to bolster their squad, having recently acquired Nigerian talent Chima Akas.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Kalmar FF welcomed Arokoyo to the team after successfully completing a medical examination. The announcement highlighted his experience in the United States, where he featured for Portland Timbers and Atlanta United. The team’s statement reads, “Today, this morning, a further boost to Kalmar FF became clear. The player who joins is Gbenga Arokoyo, midfielder from Atlanta United. He underwent a medical examination on Wednesday and has joined his new teammates on the training camp in Estepona.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the acquisition, Kalmar FF manager Thomas Andersson-Borstam conveyed optimism about Arokoyo’s swift integration into the squad. “Gbenga is a player who knows Allsvenskan very well and has done well during his recent time there. He has since continued his development in Turkey and the United States. Now there was an opportunity to get him home which feels very good,” Andersson-Borstam remarked in an interview with the club’s website.

He further praised Arokoyo’s attributes as a “strong and fast player,” projecting that the team would significantly benefit from his skill set. The defender’s familiarity with the language and the league was also emphasized, contributing to the positive outlook surrounding his arrival at Kalmar FF.
