Nigeria star Frank Onyeka is grateful to President Tinubu for the MON award following their impressive silver medal winning Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Cote d’Ivoire.
The midfielder played a crucial role as the engine room for the Super Eagles enroute to the final where they sadly lost 2-1 to the hosts.
Each member of the Super Eagles team however received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) national honor from President Bola Tinubu for their outstanding display at the just-ended showpiece.
Onyeka also entered Brentford’s record books after featuring for Nigeria in the final of the tournament as he became the first player in the club’s history to feature in a major tournament final.
After receiving the recognition, Onyeka took to social media to celebrate the honour.
“Who could’ve imagined a boy from Benin’s streets would receive the MON honor? Grateful to the President for this recognition,” he wrote.
“Huge thanks to our coaches, teammates, and especially our supporters who made this journey unforgettable. We’ll be back stronger!”
