Frankfurt keep tabs on Raphael Onyedika as Club Brugge midfielder considers future

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Eintracht Frankfurt remain interested in signing Raphael Onyedika, with the Nigerian midfielder open to leaving Club Brugge in pursuit of a new challenge.

The 24-year-old is said to be eager to take the next step in his career but prefers to handle his future discreetly, without pushing for an exit or creating tension within his current club.

The Bundesliga has long been seen as a strong fit for his style of play, and Frankfurt’s interest dates back to last summer.

However, the primary obstacle lies within Frankfurt’s own setup. With Hugo Larsson firmly established at the heart of midfield, both sporting and financial considerations mean that Onyedika is viewed more as a long-term target than an immediate signing.

The situation presents a paradox for the German club: Frankfurt are actively seeking a midfielder who can offer defensive balance, yet their current structure limits their flexibility to act.

With Ellyes Skhiri the only recognised defensive midfielder in the squad, Onyedika remains a priority on their shortlist.

Sources close to Frankfurt suggest the club view Onyedika as a potential successor to Larsson should the Swedish international depart next summer.

Meanwhile, Club Brugge are fully aware of Onyedika’s growing market value and have reportedly set a price tag exceeding €20 million for the Nigerian international.

Frankfurt are also monitoring alternative options, including Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt and Real Betis’ Sergi Altimira, as they assess their midfield plans for 2025.

For now, Onyedika’s future remains uncertain, hinging largely on Frankfurt’s transfer strategy and how their midfield evolves in the coming months.
