Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has thrown his weight behind Augustine Eguavoen to succeed as the gaffer of the country’s senior national team.
Eguavoen got fourth time lucky as he returned into the saddle of the Super Eagles, leading the West Africans to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic before drawing Rwanda 0-0 in September.
Ekpo commended Eguavoen for the superlative performance of the Super Eagles in the 2024 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, praising the veteran tactician for his role in shaping the players to give their best.
“So far, so good. I want to say Austine Eguavoen has really done well with the Super Eagles based on the two matches the team played against Benin and Rwanda,” Ekpo told Complete Sports.
“You can actually see that the team has shown more hunger and determination in their play since he took over.”
The former Eagles midfielder gave his backing for Eguavoen to lead the national team on permanent basis.
“Yes, he’s currently working on an interim basis, but then I believe he deserves to be given the confidence.
“With him, I am confident the Super Eagles will thrive and soar high again.”
