Former Nigerian footballer, Friday Ekpo, has expressed his confidence in Finidi George’s ability to excel as the head coach of the national team, the Super Eagles.

Ekpo emphasized Finidi’s coaching experience, particularly his tenure with Enyimba in the domestic league, as evidence of his capability to lead the team effectively.

“Finidi has been a coach with Enyimba and he knows what he wants when it comes to handling a team that plays week in and week out,” Ekpo stated, praising Finidi’s coaching credentials in an interview with Complete Sports.

He commended Finidi’s debut victory against Ghana in a friendly match and encouraged him to capitalize on this success to build a strong foundation for the team.

“By what he did against Ghana, I think he will try to build upon it,” Ekpo remarked, highlighting the importance of continuity and progress under Finidi’s leadership.

Furthermore, Ekpo stressed the significance of Finidi understanding the Nigerian football culture, emphasizing the importance of victory and unity for the nation.

He urged Finidi to focus on establishing a long-term structure for the team, aiming for sustainability and success over several years.

“With this experience, I think he will be keen to make a name for himself,” Ekpo added, expressing optimism for the future of Nigerian football under Finidi’s guidance.

Finidi George assumed the role of head coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro, with the aim of leading the Super Eagles to further achievements after their second-place finish at the 2023 AFCON.
