Gabriel Osho in awe of Super Eagles’ talent ahead of potential debut

By Monsurah Olatunji

Newly invited Super Eagles defender, Gabriel Osho, is excited about the wealth of talent within the Nigerian squad as he gears up for his potential international debut in an upcoming friendly against Benin Republic.

Although this isn’t his first call-up to the national team, Osho missed the chance to make his debut in March 2024 due to an injury. His initial invitation came during the post-AFCON friendlies against Ghana and Benin Republic under former head coach Finidi George, while he was still playing for Premier League side Luton Town.

Following Luton Town’s relegation from the English Premier League, the 26-year-old made the move to French Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre.

Since joining L’AJA, Osho has been in stellar form, playing in all nine of the team’s matches this season and helping them secure a solid ninth-place standing in the French top flight.

His impressive performances earned him another call-up to the Super Eagles, with the defender now eager to showcase his skills on the international stage.

“It’s an honour to be here,” Osho said in an interview with the NFF media.

“When you look at the quality in the Nigerian squad, from the attacking options to the overall depth, it’s clear that the country is brimming with talent. Some top players who could have been selected for this squad aren’t here, which makes it even more competitive to earn a call-up. I’m just grateful to be part of this group.”

Osho’s excitement reflects the fierce competition for places in the Super Eagles, a team known for producing world-class football talent, and he is determined to make the most of his opportunity when called upon.
