Genoa join Fiorentina in race for Wolves striker Arokodare
Genoa have intensified the battle for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare, joining Serie A rivals Fiorentina in a bid to lure the Nigeria international away from Molineux, according to reports in Italy.
The Ligurian club have placed the Super Eagles forward high on their list of attacking targets as they prepare for the new Serie A season, Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX reports.
Arokodare, 25, endured a difficult first year in England after moving to Wolves from Belgian side Genk last summer, but his long‐term scoring record in Belgium continues to make him an attractive option for clubs across Europe.
Genoa step up striker search
Genoa are understood to be exploring several centre-forward options as they seek to bolster their frontline, with sporting director Diego Lopez leading the recruitment drive.
The club have now added Arokodare to that shortlist, where he is regarded as one of the leading candidates to spearhead their attack.
Genoa, who are looking to push higher up the Serie A table, see the Nigerian as a potential value signing who could rediscover the form that made him one of the most talked‐about strikers in the Belgian Pro League.
Mixed debut season at Wolves
Arokodare joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Genk ahead of last season, arriving in the Premier League with a growing reputation after a prolific spell in Belgium.
However, his debut campaign in England proved challenging. He scored six goals in all competitions as Wolves suffered relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, leaving the club facing a significant rebuild and prompting uncertainty over the futures of several players, including the Nigerian forward.
Despite that setback, Arokodare’s record at Genk – 41 goals in 113 appearances – continues to be a major draw for suitors who believe he can recapture his best form in a new environment.
Fiorentina negotiations already under way
Fiorentina have been tracking Arokodare for several weeks and moved earlier than Genoa in their attempts to secure his signature.
The Florence club have already held discussions with Wolves and, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, tabled an improved proposal structured as an initial loan with a €22m option to buy.
Arokodare is understood to be open to a move to Serie A, where the tactical emphasis and style of play are seen by some observers as potentially better suited to his attributes.
The entry of Genoa into the race, however, has injected fresh uncertainty into Fiorentina’s pursuit and could drive competition over both the financial package and the player’s role in any prospective squad.
Future remains a key transfer storyline
With Wolves expected to listen to suitable offers following their relegation and both Genoa and Fiorentina keen to add firepower ahead of the new campaign, Arokodare’s next move is poised to be one of the standout transfer sagas involving a Nigerian player this window.
No agreement has yet been finalised, and the situation remains fluid as the clubs weigh up their options and negotiate terms.
What appears clear is that Arokodare’s time in England may be drawing to a close, with Serie A emerging as the most likely next destination for a striker still regarded in Italy and elsewhere as having significant untapped potential.
