Gent technical director Michel Louwagie on Gift Orban’s sale: ‘He is a luxury problem’

By Monsurah Olatunji

KAA Gent Technical Director, Michel Louwagie, has put an end to the speculation surrounding Gift Orban’s future.
Orban has been sensational for KAA Gent since signing for the club in January, with the Nigerian scoring nine goals and providing two assist in the Belgian topflight and five goals in five games in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The 20-year-old caught the attention of the world with three minutes hat-trick against Istanbul Basaksehir in the UEFA Europa Conference League, the fastest hat-trick in UEFA club competition history.
He was signed for about three million euros from Norwegian Stabaek, but he’s now reportedly valued at nine million euros.
According to Louwagie, Orban is not up for sale despite interest from top European teams, as he refused to comment on his market value despite rumours that the sensational gift is worth up to 20 million Euros.
“Gift is a luxury problem. He still has a contract until 2027, and we didn’t get him at the end of January to sell again in July,” he told media.
“We’ve never done that before. I am not going to comment on those 20 million. We’ll see what the price will be.
“I once put 20 million euros on Moses Simon’s head, yes, but that was because the Dutch sell for 40, 50, 60, and now even 100 million euros. But when I talked about 20 million, it sounded: ‘That Louwagie catches them.”
