Germany based star Chidi Miller takes football charity to grassroots in Lagos

It was a tale of fun and excitement of reunion at the Albati barracks sport complex, Surulere, Lagos as the products of the self acclaimed Nigeria Grassroots Football Federation (NGFF) reunited to play a novelty match.

Germany based NGFF product, Chidi Miller is the covener of the novelty match as the foreign based products of NGFF squared up against the Nigeria based grassroots players.

The game which ended in a 1-1 draw had 25 grassroots products honouring the game which 12 played for the foreign based side, while 13 donned the shirts of the home based products.

David Micheal put the home based side ahead in the game before Swedish based attacker Emeka Uchechi brought the foreign based products on level terms in the game.

Speaking to the media after the game, Miller is hopeful he can help one or two of the home based players to gain admission to school abroad while combining that with their education with their football caree.

“I am happy that you all came out to honour me, even at such short notice. I will try and do this more often, because I plan to come home twice every year,” Miller said.

“I won’t promise that I will take anyone to a club abroad, but I can help some of the younger ones with their academics.

“That is what helped me after I could not go far in football. I went back to my books and I am happy today that I have to masters degrees and I’m a consultant in data processing.

“I believe that I can help one or two young people around me to gain admissions into schools abroad. It’s my own way of giving back to the system that produced me, while also providing a means through which we can have continuous contact and maintain our unity. Thank you.”
