Gift Monday: Nigeria forward makes starting debut in UDG Tenerife draw

Nigeria striker Gift Monday made a starting debut as UD Tenerife let a two-goal lead slip against Sporting Huelva in the Spanish women’s topflight encounter at the Campo del CD Lamiya.
After making her debut as a 60th minute substitute in 1-0 defeat at home to Levante Las Planas last week, the Super Falcons forward was handed a starting debut by head coach Jose Herrera at Huelva.
Tenerife made a promising start to the contest as they gained a comfortable lead thanks to Jassina Blom’s first-half brace in the 33rd and 36th minute to erupt fustrations on the faces of the home fans.
With the visitors looking destined for a victory, Ojeda broke the resilience of Tenerife’s defence when she pulled one back in additional time before Cristina Gey completed the comeback with almost the last kick of the match.
Monday was in action for 73 minutes of the match and had one shot at goal but was unable to register a goal to her name on the scoresheet before being replaced her with Maria Perez.
Gift was the best player in last season’s Nigerian Women Football league scoring 12 goals in ten games for FC Robo and scooped three awards at the Super Six tournament, including the NWFL Most Valuable Player award.
