Girona invite offers for Azzedine Ounahi after Barcelona and Real Madrid interest
Girona have opened the bidding for Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, with a number of clubs monitoring his situation during the current summer transfer window.
Ounahi has returned to Girona after taking several weeks of rest following his participation at the World Cup with Morocco. The midfielder has now rejoined the squad, although his future remains uncertain and he is expected to be one of the most closely watched players in the Catalan club’s transfer plans over the coming weeks.
His impressive performances last season, combined with the exposure he received at the World Cup, have attracted interest from clubs in Spain and elsewhere. Ounahi has established himself as an important player for the Morocco national team, increasing his appeal to potential suitors across the market.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Ounahi’s name has been linked with several La Liga clubs in recent weeks. Villarreal have been mentioned among the interested parties, along with other teams from the Spanish top flight.
Sources close to the player have also indicated that Barcelona and Real Madrid have made enquiries about the possibility of signing him. However, none of those enquiries has yet developed into a formal offer.
Ajax had appeared to be among the clubs closest to securing a deal for the Morocco international. The Dutch club has since stepped back from the competition, though, because of Girona’s financial demands and the intense rivalry between clubs seeking to sign the midfielder.
Girona recognise that Ounahi is one of the club’s most valuable assets and have no intention of making his departure straightforward or accepting any price. While the indications suggest that it would be difficult for the midfielder to remain in the second division, Girona are hoping the level of demand for his services will lead to a significant transfer fee that satisfies all parties.
For now, Ounahi has quietly resumed training with Girona. His next move remains one of the major unresolved questions of the summer, with several clubs continuing to follow developments around the Morocco international.
Until his future is settled, the midfielder is back wearing the Girona shirt and preparing with the squad. The club’s decision to invite offers reflects the growing interest in him, while Girona wait to discover whether one of the interested sides will make a formal approach strong enough to secure his transfer.
Ounahi’s immediate return to training offers temporary stability, but his position at Girona remains uncertain. The attention generated by his club performances and his World Cup involvement has placed him at the centre of the summer market, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Ajax and other interested clubs assessing whether to pursue a deal.
