By Wale Mustapha
Former captain of Rangers Int’l, Godwin Aguda was again on the score sheet for his Swedish side Falkenberg on Thursday in their first leg clash of Superettan Relegation Playoff that ended 1-1 against Ostersund.
Both teams are chasing to retain their position in the second division of the Swedish leagues and will have to wait for who pick the final spot through a two legged affairs.
Brazilian midfielder, Erick shocked the home fans with his 6th minute goal haven benefitted from a let off in Falkenberg defense and poked home from close range.
The goal looked to have rattled the hosts as they struggled to put their passes together after conceding and almost concede the goal of half hour, thanks to smart goalkeeping by Nadeem Omar who made a finger tip save from Kroon’s half volley.
Falkenberg were able to put themselves together from then on a took control of proceedings with their sights on getting the equalizer before half time.
Godwin Aguda made Falkenberg’s wishes come through as he brought the game back on level terms with four minutes to end the first half. The former Enugu Rangers’ man took a solo run to the edge of the box before curling it in and made both teams head to the dugout even.
The resumption saw a very tensed game as Ostersund frustrated their hosts with a high pressing and deep defending to protect the away goal and a point.
Despite a late surge from Falkenberg to secure the match points the match looked destined for a draw as substitute Melker Nilson had his effort hit the upright.
The result means Falkenberg and Aguda will have much to do in second leg billed for Sunday at Ostesund where the eventual winner will remain in the second tier division of Swedish league while the loser will drop further to the lower league.
Aguda and his team mates will need to bring their A game to bear then so as not to allow his 1e goals scored this campaign be a waste.
