Godwin Izilien urges NFF to resolve Super Falcons’ coaching situation
By Saheed Afolabi
Former Nigeria coach, Godwin Izilien has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to clarify the coaching situation of the country’s senior women’s national team.
After the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Super Falcons have been handled by Justin Madugu as the interim head coach and this has put the future of Randy Waldrum in jeopardy following the expiration of his contract.
Izilien said no coach is irreplaceable and if NFF isn’t renewing Waldrum contract, then they should make Madugu the national team head coach to start preparation for the WAFCON early.
“No one is indispensable, not even Coach Randy Waldrum,” Izilien told Daily Independent.
“If they (NFF) are not renewing his contract, that is their decision to make but the most important thing is for them to start earnest preparations for the Super Falcons.
“It must not be him (Waldrum) before Nigeria will win the cup in Morocco next year. He can go but the NFF should give support to whoever that is there so that the team can start early to prepare for the championship proper.”
Fans have called for the installment of Madugu as the head coach of the Falcons following his spectacular performance and qualifying the team to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
