Hamburger SV eye Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi after OGC Nice exit confirmation

Terem Moffi is expected to leave OGC Nice this summer, with six-time Bundesliga champions Hamburger SV reportedly considering a move for the Super Eagles striker.

The 27-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with OGC Nice, but the French club have confirmed that he will not play for them again. Moffi must therefore find a new team, with Germany now emerging as a possible destination.

According to Sport.de, Hamburger SV are interested in signing the Nigeria international as they prepare to strengthen their squad for next season.

Hamburger finished 13th in the German Bundesliga last season and were the third-lowest scorers in the division. The club are looking to improve their attacking options, both to secure their top-flight status and to challenge for a higher position in the table.

Moffi’s physical strength, ability to control the ball under pressure and effectiveness as a target forward could make him a useful addition for Hamburger. The former Lorient striker is also capable in aerial situations, qualities that could add variety to their attack.

Moffi joined OGC Nice from Lorient in 2023 and quickly became an important player for the club. His progress was interrupted two seasons ago when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

He made a full return to action last season and was expected to play a major role as OGC Nice sought a strong finish. Instead, the club endured a difficult campaign, eventually finishing 16th in Ligue 1 and avoiding relegation only after beating St Etienne in the play-offs.

At one stage, OGC Nice suffered a 10-match losing run. During that period, some players were attacked by supporters, with Moffi and Jeremie Boga among those who emerged from the incidents particularly badly affected.

The events damaged the players’ relationship with the club and both subsequently pushed for moves away. Boga initially joined Juventus on loan before making the transfer permanent, while Moffi moved to Porto.

Porto, however, decided not to sign the Nigerian permanently, leaving him facing an uncertain future after his return from the Portuguese club.

Moffi has also been linked with Besiktas, Hamburger and Fenerbahce, although none of those reports has resulted in a completed move. Hamburger SV’s reported interest could now provide him with another route back into regular first-team football.

The striker is valued at €8m by Transfermarkt. However, OGC Nice are keen to move him on and Moffi is not believed to have a large number of offers, meaning the French club could accept a fee below that valuation.
