Werder Bremen Head Coach Horst Steffen has challenged Nigerian striker Victor Boniface to improve his performances after a below-par display in the club’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05 on Saturday.

Bremen came from behind to secure a 1–1 draw at the MEWA Arena, with Jens Stage netting a late equalizer for the visitors.
Boniface, who started the game, struggled to make an impact and was unable to trouble the Mainz defence throughout the encounter. His subdued outing left Steffen unimpressed.
“He [Boniface] tried to hold onto the ball up front,” Steffen told Bild after the match.
“Today I thought to myself: come on, he can do even better.”
The 23-year-old Super Eagles forward, who joined Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, is still adapting to life at his new club.
He will hope to make amends when Bremen face Wolfsburg in their next league fixture on Friday.
