Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru is poised to embark on a loan stint with German club Borussia Monchengladbach for the 2018/2019 season, as per reports from Completesportsnigeria.com.
Onyekuru, who made the switch to Everton from Belgian side Eupen last summer, spent the current season on loan at Anderlecht. While Everton and Anderlecht had agreed to extend the loan for another season, Onyekuru, according to Belgian news outlet m.hnl.be, holds reservations about the continuation and favors a move to Germany instead. The player cited a lack of trust from Anderlecht coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who expressed concerns about Onyekuru’s fitness following a prolonged injury, a sentiment the player contests.
Amid reported interest from Turkish powerhouse Besiktas, Onyekuru’s inclination remains towards a move to the Bundesliga.
Arrangements are underway for Onyekuru to meet Borussia Monchengladbach’s sports manager Max Eberl, with the club expressing readiness to meet Everton’s loan terms while striving to reach an agreement with the player.
The 20-year-old’s last appearance for Anderlecht was in December during a league game against his former club Eupen, after which a knee injury sidelined him. Despite the setback, Onyekuru showcased his prowess earlier in the season, netting nine goals in 19 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League for Anderlecht.
As Onyekuru edges closer to a potential move to Borussia Monchengladbach, the anticipation mounts regarding the Nigerian’s impact in the Bundesliga, with the player eager to make a mark in German football following his successful spells in Belgium and England.
