Hossein Abarghouei Confident Iran Can Challenge Super Eagles Ahead of Friendly Clash

Hossein Abarghouei has expressed strong confidence in Iran national football team’s ability to compete with their Nigerian counterparts ahead of their international friendly scheduled for Friday.

Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, the defender highlighted the team’s solid preparations and positive atmosphere in camp, describing the upcoming fixtures as vital to Iran’s long-term ambitions.

“Thank God, our training is going very well and we have a very good camp. I hope we can make people happy by getting good results against Nigeria and Costa Rica, because this game is an important step towards participating in the World Cup,” Abarghouei said.

The centre-back also played down concerns over limited collective training time, insisting players have maintained their fitness levels despite recent disruptions.

“In the short time we came to Turkey, we practiced well. All the national team players are professionals and it is not like they have only rested since the war began. All the players have been practicing individually. Our physical condition is good and we can compete with Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles opened camp on Tuesday at the Bellis Deluxe Hotel with 13 players and officials in attendance, as preparations intensified in Antalya.

The squad grew to 22 on Wednesday following the arrival of Wilfred Ndidi, who linked up with the team in camp.

However, Nigeria suffered a minor setback after Calvin Bassey withdrew due to a back injury.

Both sides will be aiming for a strong outing as they continue preparations for future international competitions. Their last meeting came at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where they played out a goalless draw in the group stage.
