Hull City, under the helm of Super Eagles defender Ola Aina, has entered the race to secure the services of talented Nigerian winger Hakeeb Adelakun, currently plying his trade with Scunthorpe in the third-tier League One. This move places Hull City alongside other contenders like Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Barnsley, all eyeing a potential £1m deal for the 21-year-old during the upcoming January transfer window.
In light of this development, Scunthorpe manager Graham Alexander addressed the situation, expressing a willingness not to impede Adelakun’s departure if he opts to seek a new challenge. Alexander stated, “The situation with Haks is that I know as much as you guys; I read it yesterday in some of the media. I’ve not heard anything official or from our club, so it’s speculation.”
Acknowledging the inevitability of interest in talented players, Alexander emphasized Scunthorpe’s ongoing negotiations with Adelakun for a new deal. He praised the winger’s exceptional performances and recognized the player’s right to shape his career path.
Adelakun, who has made 21 appearances and scored three goals for Scunthorpe this season, possesses a rich history in youth football with Crystal Palace and West Ham United. He made his professional debut with Scunthorpe United in December 2012. Currently, Scunthorpe sits fourth in the League One table with 45 points, competing in the 24-team league.
As the transfer saga unfolds, the prospect of Adelakun’s move to a Championship side looms large, with Hull City positioning itself as a strong contender in this competitive pursuit.
