Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons, Hajia Hussana Suleiman has urged the organizers of the Nasarawa State League to host a women’s football tournament.
Hajia Suleiman was present at the grand finale of the Nasarawa State League appealing to the organizers to look beyond the men and create an avenue for women to excel through football.
The Nasarawa state born administrator went on to cite the potentials and massive benefits a women’s football tournament will bring, especially providing a scouting ground for Nasarawa Amazons and showcasing platform for young girls.
“When I came, the first half was underway and what I saw from then on was very encouraging. I give kudos to the organizers and I hope they organize a female tournament as well, because it is part of the game. The concentration should not be only on the male team,” Suleiman told media.
“As a women team, this is what we have been trying to do, there are modalities on ground to host women football tournaments which will help expand our horizons in search for fresh and young ladies who will be willing to further their education in football cause we are trying to have a bigger team.
“We have a very few of the girls who have shown interest and the numbers are not enough to make a team so we are still searching. We need more and we are trying everything possible to get more girls and get a bigger team.”
The Solid Babes top the NWFL Premiership group B with 13 points from seven matches as they face Edo Queens in Benin in their next game. The first leg ended in a slim long goal victory for the Amazons and the second leg presents a very tricky tie.
