“I can’t do both” – Finidi George reveals reason behind Enyimba exit

Newly appointed Nigeria men’s national team head coach, Finidi George has explained why he quit Enyimba’s to focus as Super Eagles main man.
The Nigeria Football Federation recently confirmed the appointment of the ex-international as the permanent successor of Pesesiro after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Finidi was appointed as interim coach while the NFF opened applications for the position. He led the Super Eagles to the last international break, where they played Ghana and Mali.
The former Ajax and Real Betis winger also led the People’s Elephant to a historic ninth NPFL title and was in the race to defend the crown before the NFF called.
Although the 52-year-old was in charge of the team while simultaneously serving as assistant to Jose Peseiro, he could no longer do both roles as he decided on the side to pick.
“I don’t think it is wise to continue with Enyimba,” Finidi stated per Afik-foot.
“Knowing the level of work needed for them to retain the league title, and at the same time, carry on with the strenuous job of running a quality Super Eagles team,” he continued.
“I am not a superman. I can’t be stressing myself trying to win the league again and then battling with the Eagles to qualify for the World Cup; I can’t do both.
“This is a difficult job, and running Enyimba is also very difficult. We are talking about the entire country, Nigeria’s team, with over 200 million watching.
“So it’s wise that I follow the Super Eagles, which is a bigger challenge with a bigger commitment, which makes it a bigger job.”
