‘I never collected bribes from players to make my team’ – Emmanuel Amuneke

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Nigeria U-17 national team coach, Emmanuel Amuneke says he never received any financial reward from players to be inducted to the team as the coach of the Golden Eaglets.

One of the issues discussed by football enthusiasts in Nigeria is coaches taking money from players to be part of their teams and the former Nigeria forward insists that he never for once in his career collected any money from anybody.

The former African Player of the Year winner had Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali, and other players in the youth rank for Nigeria.

He further said that he had a lot of talents and achieve the objective of going very far at the junior World Cup, while admits he is grateful to them for remembering that he never collected a dime from anyone.

“Just like I told the former Minister that my greatest joy is not because I coach these players but they have understood that they don’t need to pay a dime to anybody to play football,” Amunike told Brila FM.

“When they stopped playing and some of them ventured into coaching with their time to do justice, they will remember that they didn’t play any money to anybody to become what they are.

“That is the little changes we can do. I don’t need to be President to change everything but in my little corner as a coach, I have changed things and these players in the future will pass the same message to the next generation that is coming behind them.” He concluded.

Amunike won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets as a coach.
