Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers says he strongly identifies as Nigerian, expressing pride in representing the Super Eagles following his goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 Unity Cup victory over Ghana on Wednesday.

Dessers, who was born in Belgium to a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, made his debut for Nigeria in October 2020.

The forward marked his return to the national team with a goal at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, helping Nigeria advance to the Unity Cup final.

Speaking to the Super Eagles media team after the match, Dessers reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria.

“When you look in the mirror, you see Nigeria,” he said.

The 29-year-old added that he is eager to represent Nigeria in major international tournaments and contribute to future successes.
