‘I still think he is not worth €23m’ — Wesley Sneijder takes dig at Ajax’s Calvin Bassey

Inter Milan’s Champions League-winning midfielder Wesley Sneijder maintained his stance on the paid price tag Ajax spent on bringing Super Eagles star Calvin Bassey from Rangers.
The Nigeria international was signed for a record-breaking fee of €23m last summer and Sneijder believes maintained that Ajax should not have paid the amount for a player ‘still developing’.
The 23-year-old is finally settling in at Amsterdam after struggling in his first few games for Ajax with 31 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch champions, scoring one goal and creating five assists.
Despite Bassey’s progress, the former Galatasaray defender insists the Nigerian has not improved the Dutch champions since arriving from Rangers and also not worth his record-breaking fee.
“I still think 23 million is too much,” Sneijder told Veronica Offside, as per, VI.
“He plays at Ajax, so he will have to be able to play football. He might be fantastic in another league. But he has a hard time when he keeps getting released and he has to play from the back.
“He has to find a middle ground in handing in the balls a little faster. Knowing your weaknesses is also a quality. When you realize that you have to hand in the ball quickly, otherwise things can go wrong.”
