Ibrahim Gusau to Super Falcons: Use past Olympics misses as inspiration for Paris 2024
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has urged the Super Falcons to channel the disappointment of missing previous Olympics into success at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Falcons ended a 16-year absence from the Olympics by defeating South Africa 1-0 over two legs to secure their spot.
Gusau expressed confidence that Nigeria would improve on their World Cup performance at the Paris Olympics, highlighting the players’ resilience and determination.
“We shall try to better our World Cup performance where we crashed out without losing a single game during regulation time,” Gusau stated.
“The girls have shown resilience and determination to qualify for the Olympics against all odds, and I trust them to carry that same spirit to the Games in Paris.”
He acknowledged the tough challenge ahead, with Nigeria facing past world champions in their group.
“We want to qualify from the group stage and target the semi-finals, which puts us in the medal range,” Gusau emphasized.
“I just believe that the team will do well in Paris and return to the country with medals on their neck. Missing three previous Olympics qualifications will motivate the girls to make their mark in Paris.”
