Ifeoma Onumonu marks a century appearance with Gotham FC

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian forward, Ifeoma Onumonu was celebrated by her NWSL side, Gotham FC during their final home match of the 2023 regular season against Kansas City Current.

A 2-2 draw with Kansas City Current ensured that the team would play at the season-ending NWSL Playoffs after Onumonu’s 100th appearance during the previous match.

To mark her 100th appearance, the Super Falcons forward was presented with gifts from the club as they clinched the final NWSL Playoffs spot on Sunday.

The former Portland Thorns striker, who joined Gotham FC in 2020 from another NWSL side, OL Reign, is in her fourth season with the team.

Despite not having a good time scoring for the team this season, the 29-year-old will hope to turn the corner when the NWSL Playoffs get underway later this month.

She has not registered a goal for the team this season in the league after 14 games but already had an assist.

In 2021, she had her best season with eight goals in 25 games. The season also witnessed her most appearances for the club.

Onumonu and her team finished sixth at the end of the regular season and will next face third-placed North Carolina Courage in the quarter-final of the 2023 NWSL Playoffs at the WakeMed Soccer Park.
