Nigeria duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi will now be coached by Manchester City’s treble-winning boss as Leicester City confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their head coach ahead of next season.
The Italian arrives in Leicester having most recently worked as a first-team coach with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, whom he helped to a Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League treble in 2022/23.
The 43-year-old has penned a three-year deal as he replaces Dean Smith as the new man in charge at the King Power.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho and Ndidi who relegated with the Foxes, are away with Nigeria as the Super Eagles look to seal a ticket to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast against Sierra Leone.
According to the club statement, the talented manager has been mandated to lead the club’s goal to return swiftly to the Premier League following their relegation to the Championship.
“Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Enzo Maresca as our new First Team Manager,” the club announced via its website.
“Maresca to lead Leicester’s Championship promotion bid after signing a three-year deal.”
Also, Leicester City Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha is confident in Maresca’s capabilities, stating, “Enzo brings a combination of personality, method, and ambition that meets extremely well with the footballing direction we are looking to take.”
