Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has described his heroic performance at Old Trafford as a dream come true despite his side fell to a late 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on Thursday.
The Nigeria international was the cynosure of all eyes as he made 12 pleasant saves to deny Manchester United many scoring opportunities until the 93 minutes before the Red Devils found a breakthrough against his Cypriot club.
Despite the disappointing away result for his side, the Nigerian, who saw his efforts go to waste, insists: “I am not disappointed because we had a good game. But I would have preferred to at least get a point, but I’m happy.
“It’s not an easy stadium to play in with these big players. I’m happy in general,” he said at the post match press conference.
The English side had a total of 34 shots at the Omonia goal, with 13 on target and it resulted into what Uzoho described as the best performance of his career, which got many people, largely Nigerian fans talking.
When asked what it was like playing at Old Trafford, Uzoho, who just like former Manchester United and Nigeria forward Odion Ighalo a Red Devils fan, admitted it was a dream come true to play in the famous Theatre of Dreams.
“It’s a dream come true for me. I have dreamed to play here for a long time. When I saw the draw and I figured I would be playing in Old Trafford, I wanted to play and I prayed to God to get an opportunity to play,” he admitted.
In spite of his herioc performances, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, credited the excellent display to his teammates, having ensured a frustrating night for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
“I am proud of my teammates most especially because it is not a one man’s job. We gave everything out there in the team and I’m happy with my performance, he concluded.”
