Ivan Toney’s Al-Ahli future in doubt after Newcastle link to Matthias Jaissle

Ivan Toney’s future at Al-Ahli has been thrown into question after former club chief executive Yazan Al-Sharif suggested the England international could reunite with ex-manager Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle United.

Al-Ahli supporters are facing further uncertainty during a period of major change at the Saudi club, with several influential figures having already left in recent weeks. Among them are Algeria international Riyad Mahrez and Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie.

The club has also lost Jaissle, who resigned as manager before taking charge of English Premier League side Newcastle United. The German coach had formed a strong working relationship with Toney during their time together at Al-Ahli.

Speaking on British radio station talkSPORT, Al-Sharif said: “It is possible that we could see Ivan Toney with Jaissle at Newcastle United.”

He then added, with a laugh: “The player has the German manager’s trust, and they formed a good partnership. The deal could happen, but I have no information confirming it.”

Al-Sharif made clear that his comments were not based on official information. However, the possibility of Toney following Jaissle to Newcastle United has sparked widespread discussion among Al-Ahli fans, who are increasingly concerned that the club could lose one of its most important players before the new season begins.

Toney has established himself as one of Al-Ahli’s most successful foreign signings in recent years. He produced a series of impressive performances during the previous campaign and made a direct contribution to the team’s domestic and continental successes.

That record has made the prospect of his departure particularly troubling for supporters of “Al-Raqi”, who already face the task of seeing their side rebuilt after the exits of Mahrez, Kessie and Jaissle.

There has been no confirmation from Al-Ahli, Newcastle United or Toney that a transfer is being discussed. For now, the Newcastle suggestion remains speculation based on Al-Sharif’s comments rather than a reported agreement or formal approach.
