Jennifer Oliver has described the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership regular season as remarkable for Confluence Queens.
The Lokoja based team started the campaign on a rather dismal note, picking a point from their first three games of the season but they eventually turn their season around and went on to enjoy a nine-game without defeat.
A 4-0 loss to FC Robo Queens in Lagos marked the first defeat in nine matches but could not halt the Lokoja ladies Super Six dream as they already secured a place in the season ending playoffs with a game to spare.
And the former defender, who featured in all 12 games of the regular season, feels her side’s impressive run was down to the team’s determination, resilience and quest for greatness.
“I feel relieved and happy that we qualify for the Super Six, it’s a good feeling in the team and it paid off for our hard work and determination,” Oliver told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“Looking at how we started the season, you will agree with me that the team have made tremendous progress, we are united and we are determined that’s the reason we are where we are today.”
Despite losing at the Lagos Landladies, Whyte Ogbonda’s side finished third in Group B and will seek to challenge for domestic glory alongside Robo Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Delta Queens, and holders Bayelsa Queens.
And the Plateau State born center back, who had struggled for game time in previous seasons, recounts her delight competing in every fixtures for Confluence Queens this term, while sharing her robust Super Six playoff dreams.
“First of all, to be in the Super 6 as a player is a great feat, it is an opportunity to market yourself in the sports world, it also creates avenue for you to showcase your talent and meet renowned individuals apart from footballers alike,” she continued.
“We have 100% chance at the Super 6, because we have a good team, a combination of experienced players who have played in the league for long and also young and vibrant players also who are ready to take the football world by storm.
“The other teams are good and tough but I believe in God and the caliber of players we have and I know we will jump the hurdles when we get there.”
