John Obuh: Former Nigeria coach warns Flying Eagles to tread softly at U20 Afcon

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Former Nigeria coach, John Sam Obuh has urged the Nigeria U-20 side not allow themselves carried away by recent fine form at the 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
After a 1-0 loss to Senegal in its opening Group A game, Ladan Bosso’s side defeated Egypt (1-0) and Mozambique (2-0) to make it to the quarter-final.
The Flying Eagles will face Group B leaders Uganda in the quarter-final with a sight on qualifying for the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia.
And Obuh who coached Flying Eagles to the U-20 AFCON and FIFA World Cup at the U-20 level feels that the players shouldn’t allow the recent triumphs get into their heads.
“Their winning is something that they should allow to get into their head because the tournament can be very tricky. The only thing they need to do is to not keep up their expectations.” Obuh told Brila FM.
“That target that they have all agreed to achieve should be their focus. It’s a general agreement between the coach and the players that this is what they are going to do and achieve without leaving any stone unturned.
“The coach should keep taking to the players on what they have agreed on as they work towards achieving their set targets.”
