Former Nigeria forward, Joseph Akpala has set his sights on the coaching role at Belgian Jupiler Pro League side, Club Brugge.

Akpala holds Club Brugge close to his heart due to his exploits with the team during his playing days. The striker’s aspirations come from his successful career with the club as well as his closeness to the home ground of the team.

He scored over 50 goals for Club Brugge in more than 100 appearances for the club he represented from 2008 to 2012.

Currently, an assistant manager of another Belgian side, KV Kortrijk, Akpala has joined the list of former Nigerian players who are now in the coaching profession.

“I wouldn’t call it a dream, but if I ever get the chance, I would certainly be happy with it., Akpala told Sports247.ng.

Acknowledging the idyllic environment Belgium provides, he expressed his contentment, stating, “We (family) are completely settled here, and we want to stay here. Belgium is my second homeland. We are a small country, but everything is perfect here.”

Akpala made his debut for Super Eagles against South Africa on 6 September 2008. In June 2009, he scored his first goal for Nigeria in a 1–0 away win against France in Saint Etienne.
