Joy Omewa nets 13th league goal as Fortuna Hjørring edge leaders Køge

Nigeria’s Joy Omewa extended her remarkable scoring streak for Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring, netting the match-winning goal in a 2–1 comeback victory over league leaders Køge on Saturday.

The former Confluence Queens forward came off the bench at halftime, replacing Miyu Takahira, with the match still goalless. Just seconds into the second half, Angolan forward Lacho Marta put Køge ahead in the 46th minute.

Fortuna Hjørring responded through Ashley Riefner, who levelled the score in the 59th minute. Six minutes later, Omewa delivered once again, converting the decisive goal in the 65th minute to seal all three points for the hosts.

The strike marked her 13th goal in 14 league appearances—an outstanding return that keeps her firmly at the top of the scoring chart as she aims to replicate last season’s prolific campaign.

With the result, Fortuna Hjørring have trimmed Køge’s lead at the summit to three points after 14 matches, bringing the regular season to a close. Attention now shifts to the playoffs, where teams will battle for the league title and qualification spots for the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Europa Cup.
