Joy Omewa scores again as red-hot Nigerian striker hits 19 goals for the season

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Joy Omewa is enjoying a sensational campaign in Europe, extending her remarkable goal-scoring form with yet another strike for Fortuna Hjørring.

The Super Falcons forward came off the bench to net her 12th league goal of the season, sealing Fortuna Hjørring’s emphatic 5–0 away victory over Odense in the Danish Women’s League.

Nikoline Nielsen broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, and Samantha Kuhne doubled the lead five minutes later. Sydney Masur then scored twice in quick succession to put the visitors 4–0 up.

Omewa, who was initially rested following her midweek outing in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup, was introduced in the 57th minute for Josefine Valvik.

Despite the limited minutes, she still made an impact, scoring deep into stoppage time (90+5) to wrap up the win.

Her latest effort takes her tally to 12 league goals and 19 goals in 20 matches across all competitions, underlining her status as one of the most in-form Nigerian players currently starring in Europe.

Fortuna Hjørring remain second on the Danish top-flight table with 26 points from 13 matches, six behind leaders HB Køge.

Up next for the Danish giants is the return leg of their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup clash against Breiðablik on November 19.
