Katsina United held by Rivers United as unbeaten run extends to six games
Katsina United were held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Wednesday, leaving the hosts disappointed after failing to secure consecutive home victories in the EUROMATCH NPFL.
The Changi Boys had hoped to build on last weekend’s 2-1 win over Doma United, but had to settle for a point in the rescheduled fixture.
Rivers United moved in front three minutes after half-time. Samson Olasupo scored in the 48th minute to give the Pride of Rivers the lead, but Katsina United responded almost immediately.
Sani Mubarak levelled for the home side in the 50th minute with a well-taken free-kick, bringing Katsina United back into the contest.
The hosts continued to search for a winning goal, but Rivers United’s defence held firm. The visitors have conceded only two goals in their opening six matches of the season.
Katsina United acknowledged their frustration after the match but praised the players’ efforts in a post on their X account.
“Not the result we wanted, but it was a great performance from the boys.
“We take the positives and now turn our focus to our trip to Lagos to face Inter Lagos FC.”
The result leaves Katsina United 11th in the table with eight points from six matches. Their record stands at two wins, two draws and two defeats.
For Rivers United, the draw maintains their unbeaten start under Finidi George. They have recorded three wins and three draws in their six matches and moved into second place with 12 points, one behind leaders Enugu Rangers.
Rivers United’s defensive record was again central to the result, as they resisted sustained pressure from Katsina United after the equaliser and protected their unbeaten run.
Katsina United will travel to Lagos for their next match against Inter Lagos FC, while Rivers United will face Ikorodu City in their next fixture.
