Kebbi BSC bow out of 2023 World Winners Cup after disappointing loss to Mazarron

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian champions, Kebbi BSC succumbed to an 8-1 loss to Bahia de Mazarron of Spain in the Round of 16 of the 2023 World Winners Cup in Alghero, Italy, on Friday.

They suffered a 7-4 loss to 20th ranked ASD Napoli (Italy) and another 4-2 loss in the hands of 27th ranked Copenhagen BSC but could not replicate the form against their Spanish foes.

Andri Sanchez gave the Spanish side the lead with the opening goal of the encounter in the first period.

Five goals followed in the second period from Suli Batis, Chiky Ardil, Bernardo, Jose Oliver, and Pablo Lopez.

Ardil’s second goal of the game increased Mazarron’s lead to seven before Nazarov pulled one back for Africa’s top-ranked club.

Canovos completed the rout for the Spaniards a few seconds before the end of the game. The Round of 16 placement was the best performance for the Kebbi Fishers at the World Winners Cup.

The only African team at the 2023 World Winners Cup will hope to move up the Beach Soccer Worldwide ranking after testing their might against the top clubs in the world.

Despite failing to go past the Round of 16, they will be proud of their performance at the competition organised by the governing body of beach soccer, Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW).
