Kelechi Iheanacho: Nigeria striker makes Premier League Team of the Week
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho made the English Premier League Team of the Week following a superb performance in Leicester City 4-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Iheanacho scored a goal with two assists to help Leicester City FC to a victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park, Birmingham, with the former Manchester City player assisting James Maddison for the Foxes’ first equaliser.
With the Foxes’ behind, Iheanacho ran into a clever lofted pass from Harvey Barnes and easily beat the goalkeeper with a header into the right side from close range to level the scoreline at 2-2 in the 41st minute.
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner also provided the assist to give his side a 3-2 lead in the additional minutes of the first half when he set up Tete who weaved his way past several defenders and finds himself in a one-on-one with the keeper before putting the ball into the back of the net after a dummy.
Saturday’s performance took his tally to two goals with three assists in the league this season after 15 games. Such a fine display earned him a place in the Official Premier League Team of the week for Match Week 22.
In a 3-4-3 formation, Iheanacho partners Harry Kane and Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo upfront.
Other players in the team of the week include Keylor Navas, Ben Mee, Ream Tim, James Tarkowski, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Declan Rice, Ruben Neves, and Amadou Onana.
The Super Eagles forward, Iheanacho will hope to add to his goal tally when Leicester City welcomes Tottenham Hotspur to the King Power Stadium on February 11.
