Kelechi Iheanacho: Nigerian winger gives Leicester City massive survival hopes
By Wale Mustapha
Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho helped Leicester City to gaining a massive boost in their fight for Premier League survival with a 2-1 comeback win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The Super Eagles star inspired the comeback win over the visitors at the King’s Power Stadium, marking the Foxes’ first in 11 Premier League matches and saw them out of relegation zone on goal difference.
Wolves took the lead as early as 15 minutes of action after Mario Lemina combined well with Matheus Cunha after dispossessed Youri Tielemans in Leicester half before the former buried his effort from edge of the box.
Both Craig Dowson and Pablo Sarabia had two clear chances to take the game beyond the reach of Leicester but missed it by few inches from target.
The Foxes made them pay for those misses as they equalized from the spot when Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa went in hard on Jamie Vardy in his box and Iheanacho perfectly converted for his fifth Premier League of the campaign.
Moments later, the Super Eagles’ winger was closed to scored the second for Leicester but Sa read his effort well before keeping it out as the hosts piled more pressure on Wolves with their mind set on claiming the patch points.
The Portuguese keeper was much in talks with series of saves until 15 minutes to end the game when he could not provide answer to Leicester’s counter attack that fell to Victor Kristiansen on the flank whose cross into center area was hit at first time by Timothy Castagne and beat Sa.
Wolves came close for a late equalizer twice from Ruben Neves but were denied by Leicester keeper Daniel Iversen.
The victory has places the Foxes above both Everton and Nottingham Forest who failed to win on the same day.
