Kenneth Omeruo clamours for Finidi George for Super Eagles job

With the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yet to announce Jose Peseiro’s replacement, Kenneth Omeruo is clamouring for interim coach, Finidi George to take charge of affairs on a full-time basis.
Peseiro’s tenure came to an end after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria made it to the final before losing to the host nation Ivory Coast.
The Portuguese coach had been in charge of the team for 22 months and his assistant, George was appointed interim manager as the NFF searches for a permanent boss.
The 30-year-old center-back was part of the AFCON squad under Peseiro and he’s just one of the two active players from the last winning squad of 2013.
Although he was a substitute in the 2-1 win against Ghana and started the 2-0 loss against Mali, he highlighted the team’s improved performance under the interim head coach.
“The training programs were very good and players were giving 100 percent in training,” Omeruo said in a post on Instagram.
“I think we played very good football [in the] second half (against Mali). We weren’t waiting to be attacked. If we converted our chances, we could have done the job.
“One difference is he (Finidi) wants us to play good football and I like that. I actually think he knows what he is doing, and he deserves to be given the job.”
