Kingsley Michael joins Modica Calcio as Nigeria midfielder returns to Italian football
Nigeria midfielder Kingsley Michael has joined Modica Calcio after a spell without a club, strengthening the Serie D side’s options in central midfield.
The 26-year-old completed the move on 14 August 2026 and has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027. Modica Calcio, who play in Italy’s Serie D, become the latest Italian club in Michael’s career after previous spells with Bologna, Reggina, Cremonese, Perugia, Vibonese and other sides.
Michael was most recently with Vibonese during the 2025-26 season. He joined the club in October 2025 before departing in December, and subsequently spent time without a club before making the switch to Modica.
A right-footed central midfielder, Michael has extensive experience in Italian football. He has made 38 appearances in Serie B, scoring once and providing three assists, while also featuring in Serie A, the Italy Cup and Serie D.
His senior career began with Bologna, whom he joined after progressing from Abuja FC to Bologna Under-19s in 2017. He moved into Bologna’s first-team setup the following year and spent periods on loan at Perugia, Cremonese, Reggina and SV Ried.
Michael later left Bologna for Austria’s DSV Leoben on a free transfer in September 2023. He then moved to US Monastir in Tunisia before returning to Italy with Vibonese.
The midfielder also has an international achievement from his youth career, having been part of the Nigeria Under-17 squad that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2015.
He joins Modica at the age of 26, bringing experience from domestic competitions in Italy, Austria, France and Tunisia. His record includes appearances in the Bundesliga, 2. Liga and Ligue 1, as well as Italy’s top four divisions and cup competitions.
Modica Calcio have now secured Michael’s services through the end of the 2026-27 season, with the Nigeria international’s contract running until June 2027.
